Ukraine says 9 people, including children, killed in Russian attacks

At least nine people have been killed and many others injured across Ukraine in what the country attributes to aerial attacks by Russian forces. The attacks, which occurred over several days, have caused widespread damage and disruption.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, authorities reported that four individuals, including two children aged 11 and 14, were killed in a Russian air strike that ignited a shop. Meanwhile, in the southwestern Odesa region, Ukrainian officials stated that Russian jets targeted trucks and other vehicles, resulting in two deaths and three injuries.

In Kherson oblast, Governor Oleksandr Prokudin confirmed that one person was killed and two injured following Russian drone, artillery, and air attacks on more than 20 settlements. A ballistic missile, believed to be an Iskander-M model with a cluster warhead, struck the suburbs of Mykolaiv, killing a 20-year-old man and injuring 19 others, including two children.

In the front-line Zaporizhzhia region, Governor Ivan Fedorov reported that one civilian was killed and three injured after Russian attacks targeted 18 settlements, causing damage to homes. These strikes also led to power outages affecting tens of thousands of residents. Fedorov noted that nearly 60,000 people faced electricity disruptions and that emergency crews would begin repairs once security conditions permit.

Ukraine’s national energy operator, Ukrenergo, announced scheduled rolling blackouts nationwide, citing “massive Russian missile and drone attacks on energy facilities” as the cause. The situation has further strained infrastructure and daily life for many citizens.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has launched its own attacks on Russian troops and infrastructure. According to Russia’s Ministry of Defence, its air defences intercepted 164 Ukrainian drones, including 39 over the Black Sea and 26 over Crimea, during overnight operations.

Ukraine’s military intelligence claimed that its forces dealt a significant blow to Russian military logistics by striking the Koltsevoy pipeline in the Moscow region. This 400km (250 miles) pipeline supplies gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel from refineries. The intelligence agency stated that all three fuel lines were destroyed near the Ramensky district, though no official response has been issued from Moscow.

On the northeast shore of the Black Sea, a Ukrainian drone attack targeted the town of Tuapse, with Ukrainian media reporting that a tanker and an oil terminal pier were hit. The incident highlights the ongoing cross-border nature of the conflict.

Both sides remain locked in a major battle for control of Pokrovsk, a city strategically important to Moscow’s campaign to dominate the eastern Donetsk region. Russia claimed to have killed several Ukrainian special forces who landed by helicopter in the city, while Ukrainian military authorities denied reports of being encircled in the area.

Russian media also reported that two pro-Russian hacker groups breached six major Ukrainian insurance firms, allegedly obtaining personal data on senior political and military officials as well as millions of customers. No official confirmation of these claims has been provided.
